Pillar Candle Experience

Pillar Candle Experience

Layer wax in many colors to create a beautiful marble pattern. A menu for intermediate and advanced makers who want to take their time.

The Pillar Candle is made by pouring wax in several colors and swirling them together into a marble pattern. Because the pillar stands upright, the entire side becomes the showpiece, and a different pattern appears from every angle. Depending on how you mix, it can become a quiet, marble-like pattern or a bold swirl. It offers the most creative freedom of the four menus, but getting the pattern just as you intend takes some skill, making it a menu for intermediate and advanced makers.

Pillar Candle Experience: Step by Step (About 90 min in total)

  1. Choose colors for the marbleAbout 20 min

Pick the colors for the pattern. Similar tones give a calm, marble-like finish; adding a contrasting color makes a bolder marble. Tell us the mood you want and our staff will suggest color combinations.

  2. Pour the baseAbout 15 min

Pour the base wax into the pillar mold. Its thickness here affects how the pattern added later will show.

  3. Draw the marble patternAbout 35 min

The heart of the experience. Drop in the colors and move them slowly with a bamboo skewer to form the pattern. Over-mixing muddies the colors, so the trick to a clean finish is to stop just when you feel like giving it one more stir. Our staff keep an eye on your hands and let you know when.

  4. Smooth the surface and finishAbout 20 min

As it sets, the candle comes out of the mold and the sides and top are smoothed into a clean pillar. Adjust the wick position and it is done.

Pillar Candle Experience FAQ

Q. Can I decide the marble pattern myself?
A. Yes. Both the color combination and the way of mixing are up to you. The number of stirs and the direction you move change the pattern, so even the same colors turn out differently every time. If you do not have a clear image yet, our staff will make suggestions.
Q. Is the Pillar Candle difficult for beginners?
A. It is the most challenging of the four menus and intended for intermediate and advanced makers. Over-mixing muddies the colors easily, and getting the pattern just right takes some skill. Our staff watch your hands and tell you when to stop, so first-timers can still make one, but if you would rather enjoy something more relaxed we recommend the Shell Candle (JPY 3,000) or Sphere Candle (JPY 3,500).
Q. Can I burn the Pillar Candle?
A. Yes, it can be used as a working candle. As it burns the pattern slowly melts away, though, so many guests keep this one as decor.
